THE BEAT OF THE NORMAL HEART
Christopher J. Hanke (Broadway: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Rent. TV/Film: Brothers & Sisters,Big Love) plays Tommy Boatwright, hospital worker and volunteer in Ned Week’s organization in The Normal Heart. Find out what this “often hilarious” (Talkin’ Broadway) actor takes with him on the road.
How familiar were you with The Normal Heart before you were cast? What attracted you to the project?
I saw the play this past year on Broadway and it was life-changing. I knew one day I had to take the plunge into this material.
What three words best describe your character?
Caretaker. Southern. Bitch.
What creature comforts do you bring with you when you work out of town?
Tons of clothes! You never know when the White House is going to call and invite you to a State Dinner (tux) or when the cast gets a day on a yacht invite (speedo – kidding!!! … not really though)!
This play leaves people inspired and energized. What would you like audiences to take away from the show?
I hope the younger audiences take away the educational, informative aspects of our American History this play delivers. For me, I knew little about this time, this struggle, this pandemic.
